Beware of the chameleon!

I was thinking about the ease we have in adapting to the environment we live in and the people we live with! It’s very common to see people make the same mistakes of others, close to them, and have the same attitudes. It all depends on the environment in which you live in!

If you want to please God, you have to pay attention to see if you’re not changing your behavior according to the environment and the people.

One example of that is that at home you give a bad testimony to the family while at church you show holiness, you’re a good girl, obedient with others and authorities; at school, you’re just like your classmates, and at work you have the same attitudes and wrong behavior as your coworkers, etc. That is, you’re not giving a testimony of the faith you say you have!

We cannot be like the chameleon that becomes the same color with the environment that he’s in!

We shouldn’t camouflage the true identity! If you have the identity of faith, assume it wherever you are, be different, stand out from others, don’t be like someone else just to be accepted, because one of the virtues that is much admired in a person, it’s when she is herself in all places, regardless of who she is.

The truth will always prevail and as hard as you try to hide, there will come a time when it’ll become visible to everyone!

God hates hypocrisy, and loves the sincere!

Assume your faith, and may your attitudes show the faith that you say you have everywhere!

Forgive, love, be sincere, genuine, have good eyes, be faithful, humble, and the reward will come, not from men, but from God!

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”

(Rom. 12: 9)

  1. This is so interesting because it’s true. Too be honest I used to be someone that wasn’t who I was everywhere. At church I would be that girl on fire and in faith but at home I became such a religious girl and secluded myself from family and had no respect or honour for them. I had to understand for myself that the REAL testimony to be given isn’t in the church, it’s outside.. In my opinion it’s better for your testimony to be more visible outside than in the church. Simply because it’s mainly outside that people need to see examples of Jesus. If your pastor or bishop asked you to do something, you would obey and even run to do it, why not your parents or siblings when they ask….Sometimes we don’t realise that we change our attitude according to our environment, but it’s something I began to recognise inside of me,when I chose for my thoughts to be focused on God.

  2. This was a really interesting post to read and how it relates to a chameleon. It’s true we must not conform to the negative unpleasant things of this world in order to be accepted or to fit in. Being a christian and having a living faith in God means we have to be different. To live a life that shows God. If that means standing out and being different then so be it. We have to live in the world but not be of the world.

  4. Thank you for sharing if you want to please God you have to look good first inside and not to live a life of pretending you are good and at home you are someone else and always changing colours like a chamelion.

  5. Many people change when thy get around certain people, or in certain situations and truthfully, this is something that I have to continue to work on because it makes no sense to change with our environment – to be holy in the church but at home, giving a bad testimony or falling to certain circumstances. Firmness in who you are as a person really matters when it comes to pleasing God, because if you are firm in who you are despite the challenges or criticism, then God can trust you to assume your faith.

  6. Thank you for sharing this. I’ve learnt that you need to be yourself everywhere regardless because that is how others will see Jesus in you. The example given was good because if we are a bad testimony we put God to shame and it will be even more difficult to bring the rest of our family members to the faith.
