Hello, we are on the 13th day talking about Jacob’s life.

“So Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Padan Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau. Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padan Aram to take himself a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,” and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to Padan Aram. Also Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please his father Isaac. So Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife in addition to the wives he had.” (Gn. 28: 5-9)

Day 13 – The details

Esau’s action of self-defense showed that he was not living by faith. Why is that? Because he lived like an ordinary person, despite the example of his grandfather, Abraham, and his father, Isaac, he was only part of the story, part of the descendants.

We can also have the same type of reaction whenever we are unsuccessful or lose an opportunity, if we don’t eliminate it.

We can be in Church and know the “story”, but still be lead by our feelings because we are given free will, free to make our own choice.

Feelings come from our 6 senses: Hearing, seeing, touching, etc. Esau saw his father bless Jacob, who obeyed by not taking any women from that land. Esau got “angry” because he had already taken a wife from those people and did something even worse by taking a woman from the descendants of Ishmael, to directly oppose his father, Isaac.

Those who don’t obey allow themselves to get jealous and angry in certain situations. Therefore, we should observe every detail.

Do we sometimes allow ourselves to feel a little jealous? For example, when a single woman that has already reached a certain age sees a friend getting married and she ignores them and even refuses to attend the ceremony. Why? Because suddenly she has a natural reaction, contrary to her faith and fails to pay attention to her actions, which turns her into an unpleasant person!

Another example: A friend or acquaintance of yours gets a work promotion and everyone talks good about him or her, but no one talks about you. What do you do? Get jealous and ignore that person!

There are many details that you allow to prevail, demonstrating an emotional faith. You go to church, give offerings, tithes, but fail to pay attention to details, which is what changes your vision.

– When you pay attention to details you are being vigilant by denying the negative and pessimistic thoughts, jealousy, pride, and selfishness.

– When you’re attentive to the details, it’s because you notice that you can’t trust yourself or your deceitful feelings that make you feel things contrary to the faith.

We’re not talking to or about “angels”, but with human beings according to the reality of each one. That’s why we should pay attention to the details because they define the kind of faith and relationship we have with God.

Intelligent faith obeys! It doesn’t act on impulse or jealousy.

So my friend, don’t act with an emotional faith by rushing into doing what is wrong.
Watch for the details, the details in the Word of God are making a difference in our lives.

See you tomorrow.
