From Children to Parents : Human inclination

Still very young, I questioned where did our bad instincts come from. How can someone become a thief, a compulsive liar, someone predisposed to cheat and deceive consecutively …

Could there be injustice and “predestination”? Could some be destined to be “model citizens” and others would be, naturally, people far from having “moral and good manners”?

When I came to the Help Centre and began to learn, through the light of the Bible, our true “root” and our beginnings, I began to understand the reason of why our wrong choices result from the human inclination.

And how?

Is the thief born a thief? No! But at some point in a given opportunity, the temptation gave birth to an action; greed gave birth to sin. The devil, who is attentive every second and realizing the respective “inclination”, takes care of “strengthening” it.

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” (James 1:13,14)

That is why supposedly calm people, when taken by jealousy, are able to kill; hence many “good” husbands, unhappy in the home and that don’t continually invest in their marriage, end up “rendering” to the temptation of another woman; that is why so many children today, recklessly attack their parents or educators…
A thought, a look, a gesture, a little attitude that is not reprimanded and expelled from the root, or disciplined by the entitled party, may end up becoming a “spark” that puts in flames – from hell – our life and the lives of those for whom we are responsible.

Just as God strengthens our qualities, when we submit to His will and live according to His Word, the devil can also use our wrong tendencies—that is if we accept to live with them.

– If you think that today it’s “funny” that your little child lies, because he is still too young to discipline, do not forget that in addition of it not being correct, it can become something natural for him, if not corrected;
– If you think it’s “normal” for your husband to go out often with “friends” for coffee or go out alone, really notice if your lack of attention is not something that is being left to desire.
If your presence is not felt then your absence, soon, will also not be noticed;
– If your daughter still small or adolescent, already likes to dress sexy and you support or feed that inclination, not taking care to teach the respective limits, do not be alarmed when she wants to go out practically naked out of the house to meet up with friends…

It’s also like that in relation to us! What is our inclination?

” I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
(Gl. 5: 16)

The only possible way to overcome this human “inclination” is to be born of God, killing our fleshly nature. And continually live this faith, day by day, every day, because we can even convert ourselves, but not the devil … and he unceasingly fights for our souls! He cannot force us to do anything, because he is not the master of our free will, but he can inspire, as he did with Eve (Gen. 3:1) and strengthen, as he did with Saul, from the moment in which he envied David (I Sm.18: 9).

If we don’t perceive the “signs” today, as we spoke last week, we will hardly notice when a huge “storm” is coming to our lives.

“The voice that we hear is the” lord “of our life.”
Bishop Macedo.
