It’s so good to be care for. For someone to watch over us and see where we need to improve, to give us “feedback” on who we appear to be, guide us and teach us the way we should go.

It is a privilege to be a disciple of Jesus. Be like Him and know Him a little more each day.

But not everyone is suitable for this honor. Why?

“After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”
Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”  (John 13: 5-8)

Why did Jesus want to wash his feet? Why not just send any other servant? And why didn’t Peter want Jesus to wash his feet?

It was a custom in Israel when someone visited a home for the host to greet them and offer a bowl of water and a servant to wash their feet. In that time, the shoes they wore were opened and dirt would go onto their feet. Wherever they walked their feet would pick up the dirt from that place. To wash your feet before sitting down at the table was considered good manners and it was good hygiene.

We live in a dirty world full of malice, violence, selfishness and pride. Our “feet” (our interior) are subject to grudges, complexes, shyness, fear, etc.
Jesus became a SERVANT so He can cleanse us. He wants to take care of us.
But of course, He will only take care of us if we let Him. If we are humble enough to recognize and have the audacity to accept with gratitude that care.
Peter did not see the opportunity he was having until Jesus spoke clearly:
-” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”

Unfortunately, many have lost priceless opportunities where SERVANTS are sent by God to teach, rebuke, and clean them from the filth of this world, instead they despise them! Not wanting to recognize that they need to be cleansed and because of that, ultimately fail to become a disciple of Jesus to become the lord of their complexes, fears and pride.

But, those who choose to listen and submit in order to become closer to God and to be clean and improve every day are cared for by God Himself!

  1. It’s soo true Mrs Silvia, when Jesus offered to clean the disciples feet he did it because he was a Servant. When a Servant of God cleans my feet by rebuking, instructing or correcting me that is them cleaning my feet.

  2. Thank you Mrs Viviane
I really know understand, both the meaning and comparison of why Jesus washed the fleets of his disciples. The way the feet were cared for back in the days, is the way I have to Cate for my Inside.

  3. This was an eye opener, it is hard to accept rebukes and ask for help but after reading this, it portrays rebukes in a different way. Being corrected and being humble about my mistakes is allowing the Lord Jess to wash me clean from the filth inside of me.
