Assistant, what kind of scent are you giving off?

Following last week’s article where we talked about taking care of your hair, I found that there is a great need to write about taking care of your physical body.

It’s not intelligent to think it’s not worth investing in our physical appearance, or that it’s vanity because we’re only matter and it will all come to non-existence, blah, blah, blah.

The great reality is that while we are still in this world we have to take care of our body in every aspect especially when it comes to our personal hygiene. You’re probably already thinking, there she goes again talking about a delicate subject. But, do you know why I‘m talking about this? Because sadly, someone has commented saying that these articles seem as though we’re persecuting the assistants. How is this possible? Our concern is that they all set a good example. Isn’t it of great importance that we dedicate this space to those who are so special and important in the Work of God? The purpose is for them to grow in every area so they can be references of God here on earth.

I was speaking with some assistants a few days back and I was teaching them about how important it is to portray a good physical image because it’s the first thing that stands out. This is a great reality! I made them think about how the Lord Jesus behaved and even how He dressed when he was among as a human being. I’m sure He didn’t present Himself in just any matter.

But ultimately where am I going with this?

I want to talk about bad body odor. This is the subject I want to talk about today and direct it to all the assistants. I want to make it clear that I’m not trying to expose or embarrass anyone, but I want to promote the importance of keeping your body and uniform clean and fragrant. This should be something of high importance for all of us, His servants, who are daily in contact with people.

If you don’t value yourself, then automatically you won’t take care of yourself and if your not smelling good than your spirituality will not be known, because frankly, no one can concentrate around someone who smells bad. No matter how strong the words that are coming out of your mouth are no one will want to be close enough to hear them. They will want to run away! At least that’s what happens to me when I’m with someone who has bad odor. I politely and respectfully, not in a rude way, slowly go away from them. And depending on how close I am with the person I will talk to them to let them know their true situation.

Please remember that before dressing up, modernizing yourself, you should take care of your hygiene. What good is it to be beautifully dressed or with you assistant uniform who by the way is the most beautiful clothing that exists and have body odor? All that beauty is in vain.

Dear assistant, I’m not pointing fingers at anyone in any way, but one thing is certain there are many cases like this. I’m not writing about this in vain. Don’t throw away this opportunity, don’t look the other way and discard the possibility that this may be for you. Be humble, and when you put on your uniform make sure it smells great and that your breath smells good as well, which is also essential. If possible, ask your closest companion of war if you smell good. Ask him or her to be truthful with you because sometimes we can’t smell our own body odor or bad breath.

Just for your knowledge, there was survey recently conducted by the British Dental Association in England, which states that bad breath was rated as the MOST disgusting factor that a person can have (followed by body odor)!

And now what do I do? Put it into practice and research on how to eliminate body odor correctly. Nowadays there are so many ways to keep good hygiene.

Regardless of your genetics, race, or eating habits, we all let out body odor if we’re not careful enough!

What is more profound is that the same thing happens with our spiritual life if we’re not careful, we will not give off the fragrance of Christ. Think about it!

What do you think about this topic? Comment on it and give us your opinion.

  1. For starters I must say these posts are really helping me as a servant of God. I don’t at all feel persecuted or pressured through them but in fact I feel so loved as the posts are dedicated to making me a better reference of God here on earth. I’m not perfect, I have a lot to work on; however these messages are very helpful. I’m so excited everytime I follow these posts because everyday it gives me something to examine and work on.

Body odor control is one of the things a servant needs to be cautious of. It can make people want to ask for your advice and be close to you but it can also make people stay as far away as possible. So to have control over this is Key, not even just to an assistant but to those who want to add to something and not be the one who takes away.

Thank you for your honesty, it helps and is much appreciated!!!

  2. I love this article. When we are fasting as well we should be careful because always there is someone whom we see and we know that he/she needs counselling so that’s why a mouth spray is much handier than a chewing gum
