3rd Day : Why has your countenance fallen?

Hello to all cybernauts!

It is a pleasure to be here with you, in the Fast of 21 days. Today is already the third day!

So, why has your countenance fallen? That is the theme for today!
I would like you to open your Bible, because there are many things that are going to be said…

You who walk around with a sad face, who gets upset with the situations happening around you, with the people who are close to you; when they benefit, you are sad and think: “She’s married;” “my brother/sister is preferred over me…;” “At my job, everyone notices them and asks for them, as for me… I am forgotten.”

You are participating in the Fast and you are with a sad face! You are upset with something that has happened.

Accompany me and see how the heart beats… and “beats” for emotions! In Genesis 4: 3, it says:

“ And in the process of time, it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground of the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry and his countenance fell.

So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Here it is written, my cybernaut friend, something very clear to the point! You, me, every one of us, present offerings. And you could ask, “What offerings?” Offering means something that you offer. Look at what Cain offered…

“And in the process of time, it came to pass that Cain brought…” (Genesis 4:3)

It may have happened that one day you did or brought something to your boss, to your parents, to whomever was responsible for you… You brought an offering, you did a favor, you offered something.

Cain brought brought food of the ground of the earth; it wasn’t something that was going to be rejected, it was something that had value! Abel, in his time, brought something as well: the firstborn of his flock! Cain brought fruit of the earth and Abel brought the firstborn of his flock, something that was his, and their fat.

“…And the Lord respected Abel and his offering…” (Genesis 4: 4)

What you present, what you offer, be it to your boss, your parents, to your friends, friends in the same faith, etc. And all of this is regarded as pleasing or not! You can be pleasing and your offering can be pleasing as well! It is written that …And the LORD respected Abel and his offering…” (Genesis 4: 4). He wasn’t only pleased just with the offering! God was pleased with who Abel was and his offering.

“…but He did respect Cain and his offering.” (Genesis 4: 5)

He (God) did not respect, was not pleased, with neither Cain, of who he was, nor of the little he had to offer!

“…And Cain was very angry and his countenance fell.” (Genesis 4: 5)

“Funny” that when you offer something that is not accepted, you get angry! Why? Because you are not look at justice… You are looking at your own nose, to your own image! You want to be accepted, but you don’t want to look at your offering, nor at yourself! Here God speak of Abel, of Cain, and of their respective offerings!

Note the following: “…And Cain was very angry and his countenance fell.” (Genesis 4: 5) Look at how your countenance has everything to do with your heart! In these 21 days with the purpose of “being with God”, you want the Holy Spirit or you want to be strengthened, you want to grow in your spiritual life, but in the meantime, you and your offerings are not pleasing! If they were, those who aren’t baptized with the Holy Spirit would be baptized! And who is, would already be maturing spiritually…

And if you switch Cain’s name with Abel’s you would see that Cain would get upset…but Abel would not! Because Abel gave the firstborn, he gave his best, certainly if God would not have been please in some way, Abel would have said. “Ok! I want to do better! I want to be just!”

Cain did not see his error… He became angry and upset!

“So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?” (Genesis 4: 6)

How God is marvelous! Observe how He speaks… He asks a question! He appeals to your intelligence.

“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” (Genesis 4: 7)

You made a mistake and sin makes you: be upset, envious, guarding the hurt, looking with bad eyes and the consequences are inevitable; this “line” of emotion comes all together because you did what was wrong.

“…And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” (Genesis 4:7)

When someone doesn’t offer their best and when she herself isn’t the best, she doesn’t look at what is just. So the consequences come along with all the disasters in your life! Sin brings a “line” of emotions that don’t wait, but attack! But to you, you should have dominance over them: the bad eyes, the judgement, the self-sufficiency, the envy, criticism, gossip, arrogance, etc.

My cybernaut friend, all of this is consequence of your heart!

I ask, you who are reading this post, in this exact moment: “You go to the church meetings and what do you do over there?” Pardon my audacity, but it is because I am looking at your soul! You aren’t accepting this, trying to “bury your head in the sand”, but there does not exist this state of denial because the light reaches you, right now! When you arrive at church you make yourself the victim saying: “God, no one understands me…” and you get upset with the situations that you are living with, but you are the one offering what is bad! Someone that has not offered himself to God, how can that same person be just? You want justice for your own ego, your selfishness! Not for what is right!

Then you implore for the Holy Spirit: “Come Holy Spirit! Come! I want to be baptized with the Holy Spirit! I don’t understand why I am not baptized with the Holy Spirit…” You get upset, you get sad! Full of sentiments, looking at the past, to your friends, to the people around you who overcome, while you are stagnant! The real motive of why you are in this situation is because of your choices! You re the one that decided to give that offering and being who you are!

Pay close attention to how you speak with God! When you speak with Him in your prayers, ask for mercy! Say: “Jesus, my countenance has fallen, because in reality I am looking at my own nose, to my selfishness. But I want to change! I want to serve you! If I am offering something that is not acceptable, so my God, I want to have a heart according to Yours, to be flexible to change, and I don’t want to “think” that I am…”

And there, you are pouring yourself; it is not exact words that you say, but it comes from inside, of what you are living, of what is happening with you. Speak with sincerity before God, because you see your injustice!

Don’t be upset with the things that don’t go your way, the way you wanted them to go.

“And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” (Genesis 4: 7)

Now you are the one that have to dominate these emotions…

It is your turn! It is 21 days where you are absent of all information, distant from the things that make you weak, so now, look at yourself! Stop looking at others, to whomever!

  5. Thank you for this post.
Whenever people correct or criticize me, I feel something burning in my heart. Although I try to understand and solve what I have done wrong, I still have bad eyes and negative feelings towards this person. And I can stay with this feeling and angry emotions for a whole day or even longer. It’s hard to oppress these emotions and look at the justice.

  6. This post is exactly where I was till some time ago, its shocking how I had allowed my emotions & heart to take hold of me and lead me. I had evil thoughts which later turned into feelings..if someone rubbed me the wrong way by saying or doing the wrong thing or what I imagined to be wrong, there I go again..thinking wrong/evil on the person, never supposing it could be me..because I was so righteous, blinded by self righteousness that I couldn,t see, but now I see. I thank God for this place, for these people and these posts. Thank God I did not run away because at a point I wanted to run away as these people were being so bad and so hard by saying these things to me until I kept hearing the still small nagging voice “the Lord corrects the son He loves” which now I realise is the Holy Spirit who always nudges me to repentance.
