Why hold onto your emotions?

You know that experienced you had as a child that until today brings you bad memories? It’s like you never forgot about.

Bad memories are more likely to stay stored in our heads than the good ones, but even those are remembered.

Do you remember when your classmates used to tell you to do things that didn’t’ have good consequences when you agreed to do them? Or when your friend started gossiping about someone else and you joined in? And all those word’s your parents, siblings and friends told you that made you feel inferior and was hard to forget?

Well, in today’s blog we will understand what God says about these thoughts that have the capacity to transform our behavior before these situations.

“My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you.” (Prov. 3:1, 2)

The first thing I want to draw your attention to is how easy it is to forget about this important teaching, why?

Because your emotions deceive you into believing that you are right, which means you ignore Gods teaching and instead live by your emotions. Let’s look again: “… But let your heart keep my commands…” Funny! Isn’t the heart where we store and experience our emotions?  Yes! But it is in our Heart’s that we must separate our emotions and keep the commandments. When we do this we won’t allow our emotions to take control of our life. However, only those who value this can move forward. Only those who keep God’s commandments and are cautious will not allow themselves to live by what they feel.

How many bad things have happened to you all because of words from your past? How many times were you depressed or worried because of things you were holding on to or even broken promises that were never fulfilled?

God is faithful! And if you keep His commandments in your heart, then you will have many years of life and peace.

  1. I have to be honest with myself and understand that I have been living an emotional faith. The Word of God is very clear about what He wants from me, so what I must do in order to have clarity about my thoughts is to match it up with His Word. Holding on to my emotions will only bring me more pain and doubt – to do God’s will is to set myself free! This is my deliverance.

  2. One of the most important things about faith is that it has no form of emotion. In the past I was such a doubtful person because I didn’t believe in myself which meant any thing could put me down. If someone said something I would get upset. Growing into a woman of God i have learnt yes it’s difficult to not use emotions as we are humans but we cannot always use this as an excuse when we KNOW the Truth. Whether we feel or not the Word remains…. and that’s the beauty of Faith x

  4. I am still trying to overcome my emotions but what I am learning is that my heart is deceitful and it will tell me what ever lie it can to justify my emotion and sin. If I question my heart against Gods commandments, then I can know the truth and have the right direction for my life. Through the Word of God, I can bring my heart into submission.

  5. The heart can be deceiving it’s true that where we store emotions is from our hearts but, it’s important to examine those feelings with our reasoning! We need to be smart and think about if those feeling are going to be a negative or positive impact on our life or not.

  6. Thank you for the message Mrs Viv.

I absolutely agree that most of time we remember only the negative things that happen to us rather than the positive.

However, I am learning through this message that I need to keep the commandments and Words of God in replacement of my own or my friend or colleague.

And in keeping these commands, I will have the capacity to lay claim to the promise of God.
