“Then Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I do not know a man?’ And the angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.’” (Luke 1:34,35)

Every time we are caught by surprise, we ask questions…

And it’s in moments like this that we show our faith.

When we don’t have control of a situation, we doubt and we ask questions; we want to feel secure, we want an answer, a direction.

“TheHoly Spirit will come upon you…”

It’s when we are faced with an unexpected situation that we have to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us; but if we decide to take control, He will not come upon us…

Do you know those moments when you don’t know what to do or what’s going to happen?

“… and the power of the Highest will overshadow you.”

When we depend on God, His Spirit comes upon us and overshadows us, giving us His peace.

Mary drew God’s attention, and so… the unexpected happened.

If we were in her shoes, we would probably worry, be anxious or complain… but this is exactly how we miss many opportunities.

We should watch our attitudes when faced with adverse situations. This is what watching is all about: to examine our reactions to circumstances.

When we have a dream, we must chase it. We should not be prey, but hunters.

I’d like you to understand the following: unexpected situations will arise, which will be difficult to deal with. And how will you react?

This is when your faith will be revealed… Then you will know if you depend on God and your faith is based upon the rock; you will know whether you live by emotion or by intelligent faith! Examine yourself and be watchful.

If I depend on God and my faith is strong, He will come upon me when unexpected situations occur.

I am strong when I trust and give my life to Him; when I am not worried or anxious. Then, the Holy Spirit will come upon me and overwhelm me.

God is just waiting for an opportunity, and this can be found in the difficulties, in the challenges…

You may have been called by Him, but it’s when you face adversities that you make yourself chosen by Him!

Don’t wait on anyone… You have to do it yourself!

  2. Thank you Mrs Vivi for the post

I have lost many chances in life because I allowed myself to be a prey instead of hunting for my dream. I laid back and waited, worried and asked many questions when I was suppose to believe, trust and do the chase after my dreams.

I have to allow the Holy Spirit to guide me it is during those moments that i show how much i trust God.The bible say watch and pray it is during those moments that i have to watch how i handle different situations.

  6. A similar situation happened recently, where I had to ask question because I didn’t understand why the situation was happening ; I knew I wasn’t doing anything wrong. However, I wasn’t thinking logically when the situation/thoughts popped up, I kept questioning and trying to understand and at the same time I was using emotion (crying- my reaction). It sounds so simple as to how God works when I read this article(this is when we depend on Him) but when we start to use emotions (things start becoming difficult). No excuse – I can’t be the type of person, one day I’m depending on God, the next I’m not depending on Him.
