Jacob’s life – Day 2

Hello everyone, today is the second day we will be talking about Jacob’s life.

Day 2 – Rebecca’s character

“Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it. So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,  ‘Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death.’ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you.  Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death.” (Gn.27 :5-10)

Notice the advice Rebekah gave Jacob. She heard Isaac speaking to Esau, but she wanted her will to prevail. Her son Esau had shown many times that he was a problematic child by the choices he had made. That’s the reason why she preferred Jacob over Esau. She felt Esau was unworthy of the blessing. Even though she was right, she had no right to do things her way.

” I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying…”
She heard her husband’s conversation, just like many of you hear many things, but the choice is yours on what action you want to take.
” Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you.  Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death.”
Because Rebekah was anxious for her will to prevail, she left out the details Isaac had mentioned to Esau when he told him to take his weapons, go out to the field and hunt game. Rather, she ordered Jacob to go to the flock, in other words suggesting the easy way…

Look at the difference between Isaac and Rebekah! Notice how being a deceiver ran in the family. Jacob was a deceiver just like Rebekah. She took advantage of her husband’s blindness, and went behind his back to get her way!

There is no evidence, or do we see it written anywhere that Rebekah sacrificed. This is why she only had natural and normal advice to give that didn’t required any sacrifice. This is precisely because she never lived it nor took Isaac’s example.

Look at Rebekah’s advice as an example for you, woman, mother, wife, and worker, that always wants to do things your way. Know that you will be accountable for those acts. If you are doing the same, it’s because you haven’t been living the example of the sacrifice, you haven’t learned from it.
Maybe you’ve given something in the past, but it has been a long time since you have sacrificed. As a matter of fact, there is nothing new to present. Your words are religious and your prayer is, forgive my expression, “disgusting”.

“How can you say such a thing?” You may be asking.

I say this because you aren’t spiritually alive, that’s why when you give someone advice it’s meaningless, because you haven’t renewed your mind, your ideas. On the contrary, the world is changing, but you’ve remained stagnant since the day you came to Church and received some blessings.

You see the things of God in a malicious way. When someone speaks about sacrifice and offering you want to do things your way. This is the reason why your life is a shame before God and others.

You can even be married to a Pastor, an Assistant, or be a faithful member, but you’re living a deceitful life. You’re actually nourishing your egoism, your own “little world”. Your life doesn’t change because you’re not a living sacrifice.

When the campaign of Israel comes along you no longer believe, because you have never sacrificed! This is why you see things with “other” eyes and want to take justice into their own hands.

I will allow each one to draw your own conclusions.
Until tomorrow.

  2. Hi Mrs. Viviane! I`m sure this messages will stay in my mind because it`s true that what Rebecca did many of us do the same but I`ll apply these words in my life, I don`t want to waste my strength to go the easy way and lose but instead sacrifice and inherit my salvation and blessings of God.

  3. Hi Mrs Vivi this was very eye opening and a real revelation for me I never really saw Rebeccas advise in that way but as you said she wanted to take the easy route without really needing to sacrifice. Sometimes I too am like Rebecca and try to do things my way instead of following God’s instruction precisely. This is something I definitely need to c work on and change.

  6. Rebecca could not offer anything more than what she already was to her son Jacob – deceiver. Hence, Jacob did not learn to sacrifice until much later in his life, however, this caused his life to be delayed especially his encounter with God.

Thank you again for this message.
