Jacob’s life – Day 4

Hello everyone today is the 4th day we are talking about Jacob’s life.

“And he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and his mother made savory food, such as his father loved.

Then Rebekah took the choice clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. And she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.”
(Gn.27: 14-16)

Day 4 – Rebekah and Jacob’s unrighteous character

Who took the kids of the goats to his mother? Jacob! Just as he had been instructed, and this would supposedly represent a sacrifice. After having done so, Jacob was dressed in his brother’s best clothes. Now, if Isaac was blind, why did she choose Esau’s best clothes? Rebekah was aware that what they presented to Isaac had to be the best: The best food, the best clothes, forgetting, however, the most important thing: Righteousness.

What pleases God is when we are righteous, not unrighteous. Rebekah did everything in her power so that Jacob can receive the blessing. She chose to present the best in everything, but she was still deceitful.

I want to emphasize that your sacrifice may be, the best clothes, the best food, something of great quality, but if you are deceitful, you are being unrighteous. Those who are righteous before God live by faith!

And when we live by faith, do we deceive? Do we do things our way? Act unrighteous?
NO! Not at all!

Many fall short, precisely because they are unrighteous, even if his or her sacrifice seems to be perfect; they show a great flaw in their character.

And this is an abomination to God! He doesn’t accept it, He doesn’t respond to it and doesn’t completely realize what you ask for because it only represents a physical sacrifice.

This is what Rebekah and Jacob did when putting on the skins of the young goats over Jacob’s hands to pass as Esau, his brother. What a terrible thing to do!

Tomorrow I will talk more about the meaning of sacrifice.
Today, I want to make it clear on when a person is conscious of his or her sacrifice but ignores the main part, which is his or her character.

See you tomorrow.

  1. One thing I am also learnt while reading this blog, is that a real sacrifce will never require me to deceive.

    Deep stuff.

  2. We may present the best sacrifice (action/deeds) but if we don’t have a good character(being righteous), we are not pleasing God. So I should always be mindful of who I am before God.

  3. Never thought of it this way. I can be doing everything supposedly right but the righteous live by faith and without faith, it’s impossible to see the Kingdom of God. Like this we deceive ourselves into thinking we are sacrificing, but really it’s not, it’s deceit.
