From Children to Parents : “Teamwork”

These days, in the midst of a trip, I was watching the movement around the airport and the essential teamwork for it to function properly.

Each worker had his function and the good performance of one depended if the other had properly fulfilled his part. We often say that “to err is human”, but we all know what can result from only one – albeit “small” human error. Countless lives have been lost because of that…

It is like that in a home, each family member is directly connected to the others and the suffering of one, or the successive failures of another, can endanger the whole family structure. That is why there suffering when there is separation … The “team” becomes unstructured and now there is the need to fill in the “gap”.

How?

At the time my mother left home, it seemed that everything I knew as a family until then had collapsed… All the dreams crumbled. I still had my father, who was the one who took care of me and raised me until adulthood. But you can imagine that he was struggling with difficulties to rebuild from such “calamity”. It was then that Someone entered and made me believe that we could be a family again. Perhaps at the moment, not as “perfect” as the other – to the human eye – but giving us a chance to be happy and conditions to build and construct our own “team” in the future. It’s true! God can join the “pieces” and renew our hopes; rebuild what we considered already lost.

Today I have a marriage of 16 years, very happy and fulfilled, contrary to what I saw my parents suffer.

So, whether your “team” is currently complete or not, what matters is the Spirit that holds it together! Although your children, already in adulthood, do not want to follow your advice and guidance, do not try to force them or incite them to make the same choices, as this will only further alienate them from what you believe; be an example, be a testimony with your own life. Be a good leader, and you will see that sooner or later, they will return because they will remember everything that you invested in them.

If you ally yourself to God, working as a team and partnership with Him in favor of your family, you will have as an “ally” the best “coach” of all time. So do not allow yourself to despair, do your part, and trust!

When I learned to “lead” myself, investing in my interior, this reflected in my entire family, regardless of the fact that I was “only” the daughter … It’s enough for it to start with just one! If I, as a temple of God, am well rooted in Him, however many difficulties I may cross—I will always have sustainability to fight and prevail!

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” (Mt.7: 24,25).
