Usually when we ask someone who is willing to serve God the reason for this choice, we hear, “Because of my love for the souls.”

Undoubtedly, this is an essential factor because anyone who has the Spirit of the Lord Jesus does not live for himself.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the profile of a man who made history in the life of his people for a few days now. I thought to myself, “But why was he so special that he left his mark and his name was recorded in the Word of God as a reference?”

I’m talking about Nehemiah. We can see two main aspects in his character: his fear of God and his complete dependence on Him, and this was the basis for his choices including the service he rendered.

Notice how he acted after learning about the state the people of God were in:

“So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.” (Ne.1: 4)

Notice that Nehemiah addressed himself only to God. Since the king respected him he could’ve asked him for help, right? But no! Upon his pain for the people who were in ruins he directed himself to the only One capable of transforming his life.

How about you Assistant, who do you, turn to when you are faced with difficult news, obstacles, difficulties even when someone is counseling you, or when you are rendering service in the Work of God? You might say, God! Really? Think about it.

You might even be one of those assistants that always serves, puts on the uniform and is permanently in the Church, or evangelizing. But if your surrender is not based on your total dependence on God, then, you are not building a permanent foundation. Like many who have done so much, but did not guard the main thing – this dependence – at the hour of trial, they look back, blasphemy, and give up on their own salvation.

What made Nehemiah a great leader was his dependence on God that was how he found the strength and security to inspire others. He remained humble and at the same time bold enough to face all problems and obstacles.

If our eyes are placed in God first, our service will be an honor for Him, and will complement our daily surrender.

Thank you Big Sister for this powerful message . What caught my attention here is the fact that I should depend on God at all times . Regardless of of the situation that I am facing because He is the only one that is able to transform my life. Should I start to look around for things that I can depend on that’s when my downfall will start.

    Hello Mrs. Luisa,

Thank you for your message again. It is so helpful to us and thank you so much for your deep care towards us.

I am the only assistant in our church and being alone, I must say from experience that dependence on God is the only way to remain in His presence and doing His work. I personally see it as a privilege given by God. But I have not learned this in the past. I used to rely on my own strength where I would always end up frustrated.
The day I learned to depend on God was the day everything change and became a success for me. Even my failures became opportunities for learning. It was not easy at first but God had been helping me. Now, I always want to depend on Him. I don’t ever want to be separated from my Father for anything.

    Hugs and kisses…

Thank you Mrs Luisa for sharring. This is a very strong message. I take it for myself because as a servant I need to remember that I was not called and chosen by man to save souls but I was called by God Himself. And so because He is the one who called me I should depend only on Him. Whenever I run to tell my friends the challengesni face, this only shows a lack of trust…. I will constantly remind myself that I should Depend fully on Him.. kisses
