The hat – bringing elegance to our style since 3000 B.C

Hello ladies, this week we’re going to talk about an accessory that I personally like a lot: The hat. There are few women who like or choose to wear hats. Sometimes this happens because they believe they don’t know how to use them, or others say it’s not their style etc..< !--more-->

Well, to start off with, you should know that when you wear a hat, it draws attention. Is this a good thing? It depends on what you want. I usually wear a hat to help protect me from the cold or heat, besides knowing that it’ll give my “look of the day” a special touch. I think they’re beautiful! This is the main tip I’m going to give you: Dress always for yourself, the way you like and with what looks and feels good.

If you’re the type of person who usually doesn’t wear hats, start out by trying neutral colors that match with your hair color. Never match a hat with your outfit. Try to “clash” a little with it, always taking into consideration the shape of your face:

– If you have a round face, watch out! Hats can make your face look larger. Try to use something more “geographic” (patterns). It’ll suit you better.

– The size should be proportional to the woman’s height. Those of you who are taller, hats with flaps and high crowns are the best choice, as for those of you who are shorter, smaller crowns.

– Hats with flaps look better with short or medium length hair, or when your hair is up. Brimless hats and berets can be used with long hair or when your hair is down. Don’t overdo it with accessories such as earrings and necklaces, it will make you look “crowded” and sometimes confusing. Go for something smaller and not too flashy.

Did you know that you can wear hats with any style of clothing? To be fair, there are no restrictions when it comes to them, whether you’re going for a basic or a more sophisticated look. What we shouldn’t do is use them after 6pm. Why is that?

Let me give you some guidelines on the etiquette that we should take into account when we wear a hat:

1 – Never wear a hat inside your workplace. You can use it during the commute, but you should take it off when you arrive.
2 – When indoors, always take off your hat as soon as you arrive. It’s good manners.
3 – You can use it during meals whenever they are outdoors, if not, take it off.
4 – Do not wear a hat or cap in the church, much less during the meeting. Women should never use a hat as a hiding place for “dirty” or messy hair. You may be forced to take it off.

I hope I’ve been able to help with these tips. Starting today, try to include hats in your “look”. You’ll see a more elegant side of yourself. Remember: discretion and harmony are key aspects for a truly beautiful look.
