{"id":1923,"date":"2015-01-14T17:52:24","date_gmt":"2015-01-14T17:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vivianefreitas.com\/en\/?p=1923"},"modified":"2015-01-21T17:52:33","modified_gmt":"2015-01-21T17:52:33","slug":"nutrition-what-is-the-best-salt-for-your-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vivianefreitas.com\/en\/nutrition-what-is-the-best-salt-for-your-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Nutrition: What is the best salt for your health?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p class=\"intro\">One of the health problems that are linked to a high mortality rate is cardiovascular disease.<\/p><br \/>\nAnd hypertension has increased more and more. <!--more-->That is why we need to be aware of a better standard of nutrition, physical exercise, water consumption, and lower consumption of sodium and processed products (high in sodium).<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nContrary to popular belief sodium is an important mineral for our health, as it plays a part in the transmission of nerve impulses, muscle contraction, hydration balance, transportation of molecules between cells. However, what happens is that excess sodium is extremely harmful to our health and research shows that the average sodium intake of most people is twice the recommended. This excess strains the cardiovascular and renal system, and increases water retention.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe WHO (World Health Organization) recommends a maximum intake of 2 g of sodium per day, which is equivalent to 5 g of common salt table.<br \/>\nMy tip is to always use more spices, fine herbs in food preparation and less salt.<br \/>\nBut did you know that there are different types of salt that are healthier?<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nAvoid refined salt because it is low in minerals. A good option is:<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 Sea salt because it is obtained by the evaporation of seawater and is minimally processed, thus being more enriched in minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 Pink Himalayan Salt, have you heard about it? The pink salt (230 mg \/ g of salt) has about half the amount of sodium of that of refined table salt (400 mg \/ g of salt), and it is rich in minerals, which also explains its pinkish color.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nPink Himalayan salt is not processed by the industry and its crystals are harvested manually in salt deposits, when it settled in the mountains of the Himalayas. It is a natural salt and a source of more than 70 trace elements, offering great health benefits. It helps in the detoxification of the body, in the hydration mechanisms; stimulating cell renewal, among other benefits.  But it\u2019s no excuse to exaggerate its consumption.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHow about trying it out?<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nUntil next time.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSource:
